Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride

A huge thank you to Lydia Harper and her family (pictured right: Lydia Harper, her stepfather, brother in law and mother, about to set off on their journey) for cycling 60 miles from Manchester to Blackpool on Sunday 4 July in aid of The Sick Children's Trust!

The family decided they wanted to give something back after Lydia’s niece Naomi was born 10 weeks premature and spent time being treated at Sheffield Children’s Hospital over the New Year. During this period, Lydia’s her sister and her husband stayed in

                                                                                   Treetop House.

They hoped to raise £500 but have so far exceeded this amount, with more expected to come in! The family have requested that all the money they raise goes specifically towards Treetop House.

The Big Fish

Doting dad Dominic Morgan organised an exciting day of fun and fishing to raise money for Acorn House in Cambridge on Saturday 31 July..

‘The Big Fish’ at Suffolk Water Park in Ipswich had the biggest names in the angling world competing in an all day tournament along side lots of family friendly activities.

Dominic and his family stayed at Acorn House in March this year while their daughter Jodi O’Rahilly was in hospital with severe aplastic aenemia. Sadly Jodi lost her year and a half battle with the condition on 4 March and now her family wish to raise money to help the house that helped them through this terrible time.

Their aim is to organise a series of events over the next couple of years, to raise enough money to run Acorn house for one year.

Colin and Doug's American Cycle

On 6 May 2010, Colin Smith and Doug Pattison began their incredible cycle across the USA to raise money for The Sick Children’s Trust!

Their amazing 3,500 mile journey started in sunny Los Angeles and over the following 50 days they will cycle north-east across the country to Boston, taking in such incredible sights as the Grand Canyon, The Rocky Mountains and The Mississippi River!

Colin works as a chaplain for The Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and so every day he witnesses first hand the effects that having a child sick in hospital has on a family. This has moved him and his friend Doug to raise money for our charity.

At the time of the cycle Colin will be 71 and Doug will be 69, so this will be no mean feat!! Please show your support by visiting their online sponsorship page www.justgiving.com/colinanddougusa

Kevin and Emma Birch and their little girl Molly came to present a cheque along with Rachel Kealey and her sons Joseph, Harry and Sam (pictured).  Kevin, along with friends and family organised The Azerley Charity Clay Shoot at Mill Farm, Azerley near Ripon. They raised £4,208.50 for The Sick Children's Trust and the same again for The Child Development Centre Harrogate Hospital.

This is the third year this event has supported us.   Molly's family stayed at Eckersley House for nine days when she was born in February 2008 and Joseph's family have been staying at Eckersley House on and off now for seven months while Joseph has been undergoing treatment at St. James's Hospital.  Both families got are involved with the event as their  way of saying thank you to The Sick Children's Trust for their support.

A big thank you to the Hatchman family for their ongoing support.

They recently presented us with a cheque for £2500 at Stevenson House. Jon, who regularly uses the house, raised the money at his local school, Chatham Grammar School for boys.  The school held a ‘Chatham Grammar School’s Got Talent’ day based on the X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent and charged people to enter an act and also to watch.

Four University graduates took on the massive challenge of cycling across the USA to raise money for The Sick Children’s Trust last summer!

George Stancliffe, Freddie Athill, Alex Kinloch and Phil Lis cycled 4,000 miles from East Coast to West Coast, camping in tents along the way.

The boys felt compelled to raise money for The Sick Children's Trust after visiting one of our ‘Homes from Home’ and witnessing first hand the important work we do.

The cycle began at the end of June 2009 and finished just two months later. Visit their website www.theamericanexpress.co.uk for further information on the challenge and read their blog detailing the adventures they had along the way. Thank you for all your efforts!

Thanks so much to former Acorn House guest Natalie Snaddon for organising a series of charity nights called ‘Thank you for the Music’.

Natalie and her family stayed in Acorn House when her daughter Georgia was diagnosed with Leukemia 5 years ago and was receiving treatment at Addenbrookes hospital. Thankfully Georgia is now in remission and the family decided they wanted to give something back to the place that helped them through their tough time.

They chose to organise a musical themed fundraiser because of Natalie and Georgia’s shared love of musical theatre.

The event took place on the 17th, 18th and 19th September 2009 at the Norwich Puppet Theatre and they raised a fantastic £2,643.86. For more information visit www.puppettheatre.co.uk
