Golf day hosted by Anton Du Beke raises £37,000

On Wednesday 26 June, our wonderful ambassador Anton Du Beke hosted our second annual golf day. He joined us again for a glorious day of golf amidst the stunning surroundings of Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire.

Just like the inaugural event in July 2023, Anton’s second golf day was another huge success, raising a £37,000 for our ‘Homes from Home’. Combined with the £70,000 raised at our Afternoon Tea and Dance event earlier this year, Anton has helped to generate over £107,000 during 2024 to help us keep families with a seriously ill child in hospital together.

On a scorching hot summer day, the golfers arrived early for breakfast before playing 18 holes on the Melbourne Course, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in England. Following the 18th hole and Gin Ferry – which offered a ‘sharpener’ or a refreshing lemonade, kindly donated by Fever Tree, while crossing the lake to reach the putting green – the golfers headed to the clubhouse terrace for drinks and a gourmet barbeque ahead of the prize giving and auctions.

Prizes were given to the top three teams, with Fortnum and Mason hampers going to the winners and a Calloway putter and Slingsby Gin going to the second and third placed teams respectively. The silent and live auctions were packed full of fantastic prizes, donated by Josh Wood Salon, Oblix, The River Café and many others.

Amidst all the fun and games, guests heard a powerful family story from Carl Lawton. During a critical time when his daughter Chloe underwent brain surgery, we provided Carl and his wife a comforting ‘Home from Home’ at Acorn House while Chloe was in Addenbrooke’s Hospital. It was a timely reminder of just how important our ‘Homes from Home’ are to families who stay with us. We offer Carl our heartfelt thanks for kindly sharing his story.

A big thank you to everyone who made the day such a huge success, with special thanks to Anton for being such a wonderful host and to Sarah Stirk for helping with the golf-themed game of heads or tails. We would also like to thank the Centurion team for kindly gifting their prize money to us, and to Rare & Fine Wines Ltd for their donation of wine for the day.
